Fort Collins, Colorado, is blessed with many great local restaurants, and many of them are not chains, but locally owned places. I really like the variety of my local favorites – cafés, brunch places, taco places, eateries, breweries. I thought I would share Fort Collins, Colorado, Best Restaurants List, with you.
Click here to read my super great list of twelve local Fort Collins, Colorado, favorite restaurants! And just below, I describe why I like each one.
This list was made in Apple Maps, and will show up on Apple phones. I haven’t yet made one for Android phones, but let me know if you can see my list on your Google phone. I believe the link should still work.
The Fort Collins city and its surrounding area are known for local beer breweries like Odell and Fat Tire, and stronger spirits like whiskey. Many have outdoor patios with food trucks serving food, which is a local requirement for anyone serving alcohol.
Best Restaurant List:
- **Cafe de’ Bangkok: Fort Collins, Colorado, can sometimes be a little short on good ethnic/non-European foods, but this place is as good as any in Los Angeles. And the chef and owner is a woman. This amazing Thai food restaurant is super good! I’ve eaten there at least twelve times, and never had a bad meal. They have non-dairy coconut ice cream, which is a huge boon for anyone who is dairy-free (nearly every dessert in every restaurant is impossible for me to eat.) They have sticky rice, and do takeout.
- The Waffle Lab Restaurant: The combinations are amazing! They started out as a food truck, and had a normal stop on a downtown cement island for a while. Now they have their own store front. Everyone raves about this place. And in Summer, they go to City Park as part of Food Truck Rally for dinner and playing each Tuesday evening.
- Maza Kabob Restaurant: This place has amazing Middle Eastern food from Afghanistan. It has amazing dry rubs on roasted meat skewers (kabobs), and wet sauces heavy with yellow turmeric, potatoes and chickpeas. They serve yogurt sauces and rice. I highly recommend them. They are small and in mid-city by Drake and College. (on 3/2022 the website says it is temporarily closed. They might be moving locations because the mall they are in is changing.)
- Mount Everest Cafe Restaurant: This place is Nepalese cuisine – It’s a cross between it’s two cultures: India on one side, and China on the other. So you might recognize the naan bread, tomato-based curries, and then see Chinese style dumplings, but made with beef instead of pork or chicken. (i think the beef stands in for Yak, a high plains meat animal there, but don’t quote me.) The food is very good! They are at Drake Avenue and Shields St., in Fort Collins, CO, on the Southwest side.
- Tap and Handle Bar and Restaurant: This place has really good food! We really liked the friendly atmosphere inside the downtown Fort Collins’ Tudor-style white with dark brown wooden supports, which is a bar, but didn’t feel like a bar. Their burgers are super good! They have a bay window facing College Ave., and a large patio for groups. And in March 2022 I see that they have many outside patio tables with fire in the middle. Fun!
- Inca Mexican Restaurant: This place has super amazing Mexican food, with real guacamole and salsas. They have a backyard fountain patio in the shade, and a large seating area inside. They are very busy for lunches and dinners. (If you’re dairy-free, know that the guacamole comes with cheese on it. You can ask them to omit it.) In March 2022, they had a fire in the main location, so they are serving tacos in a new temporary location along College Ave. I think this is close to Sonny Lubick’s, just south or north of there.
- Café Vino: This place has real croissant and coffee, if you want a brunch. The dinners are amazing, too, with things like rack of lamb, cocktails, great appetizers and a dark, date-worthy atmosphere. And of course, they have wine, as the name implies. They just remodeled in January and February 2022.
- Café Bluebird: This brunch and lunch place is close to the north side of CSU, and serve delicious breakfast skillets and great eggs benedict. The decor is a little dated, but there is a wall of windows along the smaller room, and the place is generally quiet. Parking in the back. It’s located along Laurel Ave., about half a mile West of College Avenue, on the north side. (See map link above)
- Inca Mexican Restaurant: This is another good Mexican restaurant in Fort Collins, Colorado. The food and margaritas are delicious, and the guacamole is real. There’s an enclosed patio on the east side that is pleasant, even if it’s on the traffic side. It’s in mid city close to Maza Kabob, and Drake and College Ave. It’s on the West side.
- Sonny Lubick’s Steakhouse: This is the place to celebrate momentous life events like holidays, graduation, new jobs. It’s a steakhouse and bar underground, with a classy light look inside the restaurant, and yet traditional darker bar. It’s in downtown, just south of Mountain at College, on the West Side.
- Bad Daddy’s Burger Bar: Ok, so this place IS a chain. The burgers and fries are really good. There’s an upstairs patio that overlooks the Foothills Mall outside area, where I once enjoyed on a warm February day for my birthday. (Warm in February! I was in shirt sleeves!!) I still like going here, but some of my enthusiasm was dimmed when they were acting crazy during the 2020-2022 pandemic, like asking for my phone number on arrival, and carding my gray-haired parent for alcohol. We were trying to celebrate a birthday, and I thought that was a huge civil rights overreach on their part “to keep me and everyone safe.”
