Back to School can also mean sharing new germs with everyone, which is beneficial to everyone!!! I know in this crazy time that we’d been lectured about germs down to a “nubbed pencils” state, but its actually the opposite. Sharing germs with others benefits everyone’s immune systems by challenging them, and exchanging bacteria with them.
But I know that it can not be fun to get sick with a cold or flu. In this article, I’ll give you some ideas about how to use foods, homeopathy and herbal medicine to keep your health strong and vibrant.
The easiest way to stay healthy is change your plate:
Eating fresh, raw garlic in the form of chickpea hummus or Italian pesto can be anti-viral. You would never want to use raw cut garlic directly on any wet inside surface of your body (mouth, stomach), nor outside skin, though – this food is extremely “hot” in herbal medicine terms (according to a 1500 AD herbalist named Culpepper). It could blister skin!! Really!
There is a super dilute form of flu virus called “Influenzium.” It is so dilute that there is no actual flu virus left. It would not make you sick, but sort of remind your body to watch out for the energy of flu viruses. You could try preventing getting flu by taking 2 pellets of the 9c or 30c Influenzium per month. This medicine does not interfere with any other medication. Made by Boiron USA, you can find this at most health food stores like Natural Grocers, Whole Foods, others. A typical cost is around $11.
Another form of antiviral homeopathic treatment is called Oscillococcinum (what a mouthful!!). I was told by a professional homeopath that even taking one tiny pellet beforehand may prevent flu. (To compare, the homeopathic treatment of flu (listed on the box) at the first onset can mean taking 1-6 vials of about 1Tb each over two days. Its supposed to remind your body about the energy of flu viruses, especially when you feel it coming on, and help your body react sooner to recover. It does not prevent flu, but may help shorten the term of having it. (This medicine does not interfere with any other medication.)
Eating a huge range of colorful fruits and vegetables, especially used raw if you can, can help amp up your vitamin C. this can help your immune system. I’m not a fan of kale at all, but it is easy to add a few leaves of spinach to a smoothie, without wrecking the lovely taste. I like cherries, blueberries, peaches, maybe with strawberries too. But you could use any that you like.
The non-tropical ones are better for keeping your blood sugar stable. And remember to use a blender, not a juicer. The juiced fruits taste great, but its fruit sugar without the fiber, so that sugar will leap into your blood stream, the same as white sugar.
